Message From Ms. Barnes
RE: Wearable AI technology
As wearable AI technology such as AI glasses becomes more common, we want to remind students that these devices fall under our mobile device policy. Just like smartphones, smartwatches, and wireless headphones, AI-powered wearables must not be worn or used during the school day. This ensures that our classrooms and common spaces remain focused, respectful, and free from digital distractions. Students are asked to store these devices safely in their lockers or bags until after school hours.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD PROGRAM REGISTRATION
The Grade 9 students were recently introduced to the Duke of Edinburgh Award Program at The York School.
The Award asks participants to make a sustained commitment to a skill, a service, and a physical recreation activity. Participants must also complete an Adventurous Journey.
The Award is self-directed, which means the participant chooses which activities they do in each area. Some of the many benefits of the award include:
experiencing how perseverance and achievement can raise self-confidence
getting more out of activities that participants are already involved in
being inspired to try something new
giving back to the community
Award holders are internationally recognized and can be a great addition to any resume or University application
Grade 9 students who are interested in taking on this challenge will be supported at The York School, however, it is the responsibility of the individual student to plan, participate in, track, reflect and obtain supervisor sign-off for each required component of the Award. Students will be charged a fee of approximately $150. And this award is completely optional.
A summary of the award conditions can be found here.
Students can register on their own using this website. Registration closes on November 14.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Fuss at afuss@yorkschool.coms (resource).
Regular Duke of Ed program support occurs every Friday morning in the cafeteria for any student working on their bronze, silver or gold awards.

DAILY BREAD FOOD BANK DONATIONS - TOMORROW IS THE FINAL DAY - Please Support!
More than 1 in 10 Toronto residents now rely on food banks, and almost 1 in 4 clients are kids and youth.
We challenge all our students to bring in at least one item tomorrow for our final day of donations!
A single can of tuna, a bag of pasta, or a jar of peanut butter might not seem like much, but when we all contribute, it adds up to something meaningful for Toronto families.
Drop your items off outside the student life office, or in the middle school commons.
Thank you to all of our families who have already supported this decade-long partnership between York and the Daily Bread Food Bank.
Winter Term Co-Curricular Schedules
As the new Athletics term begins, our students are encouraged to review the cocurricular schedules as several additional offerings have been added to our clubs program. Students and families can review the promo slides here!
Please note, leadership roles and committee meetings are full-year commitments and students will continue to attend those meetings as they have since September.
As always, students should speak with their homeroom teacher and adviser to determine what opportunities they will engage with to maximize connection and balance within their schedule!
THANK YOU YPA!
Thank you to our YPA volunteers for making Halloweek 2025 a spooktacular one! From decorations to the Middle School Carnival, we appreciate our partnership with the parent community here at York.
Additionally, thank you to all families who donated to our Daily Bread Food Bank campaign.
