Peer Tutoring Information

We’re excited to announce that the Peer Tutoring Program will be starting in the next couple of weeks, and we would love to have your child participate!

If your child is interested in becoming a tutee, please fill out this quick form. Your responses will help us match them with a tutor who can best support their learning needs.

Why join the Peer Tutoring Program?

  • One-on-One Support: Get personalized help from fellow students who excel in the subject area your child is looking to improve in.

  • Comfortable Learning Environment: Work with peers who understand the challenges they may be facing.

  • Flexible Scheduling: Peer tutors aim to accommodate to your child's schedule, making tutoring easy to fit into the week.

  • Boost Your Confidence: Whether it's reinforcing concepts or getting ahead, peer tutoring can help them succeed academically!

Everyone Benefits from a Little Extra Help!
It’s completely normal to seek extra help, and many students take advantage of peer tutoring to stay on top of their studies. Whether you’re trying to master a tricky subject, prepare for exams, or just need a hand with homework, peer tutoring is a great way to reinforce what your child is learning. Even the best students benefit from reviewing material and discussing it with others!

Don’t miss this great opportunity to strengthen your child's skills and boost their confidence. Whether they need help with homework, test prep, or understanding tricky concepts, we’re here to help them succeed.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Ms. Rhemtulla, krhemtulla@yorkschool.com or Ms. Maziarski, kmaziarski@yorkschool.com.

Introducing Canvas: New Learning Management System

We are excited to launch Canvas, our new and upgraded Learning Management System replacing Blackboard in the Middle and Senior School.

Canvas gives you greater visibility into your child’s daily learning journey, offering clear, real-time insights into course materials, upcoming assignments, and personalized teacher feedback.

To connect your account and start observing your student's progress, please follow our step-by-step Canvas Parent Observer Setup Guide. All you need to get started is a quick pairing code generated from your child's student account.

Stop by our IT Support table during Curriculum Night on September 24 and October 1 and our team will be available in person to help you connect your account and answer any questions.

You can also always reach out to helpdesk@yorkschool.com for any additional questions regarding Canvas.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD PROGRAM REGISTRATION

Today, the Grade 9 students were introduced to the Duke of Edinburgh Award Program at The York School.

The Award asks participants to make a sustained commitment to a skill, a service, and a physical recreation activity. Participants must also complete an Adventurous Journey.

The Award is self-directed, which means the participant chooses which activities they do in each area. Some of the many benefits of the award include:

  • experiencing how perseverance and achievement can raise self-confidence

  • getting more out of activities that participants are already involved in

  • being inspired to try something new

  • giving back to the community

  • Award holders are internationally recognized and can be a great addition to any resume or University application

Grade 9 students who are interested in taking on this challenge will be supported at The York School. However, it is the responsibility of the individual student to plan, participate in, track, reflect and obtain supervisor sign-off for each required component of the Award. Students will be charged approximately $150 to cover the fees charged to The York School by the Duke of Edinburgh Award organization. This award is completely optional.

A summary of the award conditions can be found here.

Students can register on their own using this website. Registration closes on October 30.

Regular Duke of Ed program support occurs every Friday morning in the cafeteria for any student working on their bronze, silver or gold awards.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Fuss at afuss@yorkschool.com | resource.
