Middle School - January 11, 2024

Principal’s message

Happy New Year! Wishing all students and their families a healthy, happy and productive year ahead. At the first assembly of the year, it was shared that the start of a new calendar year is an opportunity to be hopeful. With the new strategic plan in place, the hope lies in being united in living by the school’s values. We invite students, families and staff to:

  • be curious by asking questions to deepen your understanding and explore other perspectives.

  • embrace challenges as an opportunity to learn and grow.

  • contribute to a community by thinking about and acting on behalf of a group.

We have another exciting term of school ahead, including the presentation of the May Challenge Week trips, the middle school social, Wellness week, and special grade level learning activities, such as the grade 7 speech competition, middle school arts showcase, and grade 8 science festival.

Looking forward to seeing parents at one of these above events.

Sincerely,

Helen Gin
Middle School Principal

STUDENT LIFE & BELONGING

House Update!

At our Welcome Back Spirit Assembly on Wednesday, students and staff saw the results of all their hard work and participation in our House system from Term 1. Students have been accumulating points as a house team during larger spirit challenges as well as individually through the 3 Cs of Community, Challenge and Curiosity. As you can see, it is still anyone’s game as we enter the second term with the final House Cup on the horizon in June!

Congratulations to Water on their current 1 place standing! Stay tuned for your dress down day soon!

Sunnybrook Hospital Pediatric, Family Practice and NICU Book Drive - January 8 to 19

Our book drive for Sunnybrook Hospital’s Pediatric, Family Practice and NIC Units has begun! Please note that we are looking for books that would be appropriate for ages 1 - 12 in gently used or new condition.

For every book donated, students will also earn house points. Students can donate books into their House coloured box in the cafeteria and Middle School commons to earn house points.

Thank you to Charlotte Y, ‘25, for creating this initiative and for the York School community’s support!
