UPCOMING EVENTS

  • MAKE UP CLASSES FOR WINTER CLUBS 
    Winter Co-curricular clubs end on Friday, February 23. Make up classes for only external provider clubs missed in the last week of classes in December and the day of an early dismissal due to inclement weather will be offered on Tuesday, February 27 and Thursday, February 29. 

    Due to a conflict with our JS Movie Night event on February 28, we will shift make up classes for Wednesday offerings to Wednesday, March 6 so that students do not miss either experience. (See clubs for make up classes below)

  • JS WINTER ATHLETICS WRAP UP
    The Winter Athletic season is over on February, 22 but coaches will choose one of their final practice times during the Week of February 26 to celebrate the season and return their jerseys. 
    Please Note: The last session of Grade 1 & 2 Multisport on Fridays is March 1.

  • REGISTRATION FOR SPRING CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAMMING (ATHLETICS & CLUBS)

    Please review the spring co-curricular opportunities and discuss the options with your child before our official sign-up begins on YorkNet next Friday, February 23 at 9:00am.

    Co-Curricular programming for Spring Clubs and Athletics starts on Tuesday, April 2 and runs until Friday, May 24.
    Please note that even if your child is currently enrolled in a teacher-led club that runs all year, you will still need to re-register them for the winter term. Co-curricular registration is on a first come, first serve basis. 
    NOTE: If you wish to add your child's name to a club that has reached maximum capacity, please email zvito@yorkschool.com to be added to a waitlist and we will do our best to accommodate your request. 

    For those on the waitlist, Zach Vito will contact you regarding the status of your registration by end of day Thursday, March 7. 

    After School Clubs & Athletics pick up is at 4:45pm.The After Care Program runs until 5:30pm. All students must be picked up by 5:30pm as there will not be any aftercare supervision offered after this time.

  • For inquiries regarding trips and co-curriculars, please contact Zachary Vito at zvito@yorkschool.com. Zach joined us as our new admin assistant, front desk. He will be there to greet you at the Junior School and is responsible for inquiries regarding co-curriculars and school trips. 

  • There are no classes on Tuesday, February 20. Only online conferences will take place. 

  • Students will be marked late when they arrive after 8:45am.

  • If your child arrives late, please remind them to check in at reception before heading to class

  • If your child is arriving late or missing school, please send an email to their homeroom teacher and 1639attendance@yorkschool.com.

The YPA is excited to bring back the Junior School Pancake Breakfast - an annual community building event which takes place in our Junior School Cafeteria.

When: March 5 & 6, 2024
Time: There are 2 seatings each day; 7:30am to 8:00am and 8:00am to 8:30am

STUDENT LIFE & BELONGING

SAVE THE DATE - JUNIOR SCHOOL MOVIE NIGHT WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 28 3:30pm - 5:45pm

  • This is an optional after school event but we require a parental RSVP.

  • This JS Movie Night Parental RSVP Google Form is due back by Friday, February 23 and is required as consent for students to participate and to order pizza for dinner.

  • The 3 movie titles that will be screened are: 
    JK - Gr. 1  TOY STORY (Library)
    Gr. 2 -3  INSIDE OUT (Cafeteria)
    Gr. 4 & 5 ENCHANTED (Gym)

  • It will also be a pink shirt casual day to honour national Pink Shirt Day and remind students to choose kindness and stand up against bullying. 

  • Students are asked to bring their own water bottles, and are invited to bring their sleeping bags and pillows from home in order to make their viewing experience more comfortable :) 

  • We are looking for a few parent volunteers for this event and you can express your interest on the form.

HOW TO REGISTER ON YORKNET FOR SPRING CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAMMING (ATHLETICS & CLUBS)

At 9:00am this Friday, February 23, you will need to login to YorkNet, go to the resource board and click the button Junior School Co-Curricular Program Registration. The registration message will change on YorkNet from "The registration for this event is currently unavailable" to "Register Now". At that time, you can Click on "Register Now".

You will be asked to register one child at a time. If you have more than one child to register, click 'Register Again' at the end of the process, and submit your next child's name and grade.

Registration will close at 12:00pm on Friday, March 1.  All Spring clubs & athletic practices will start on Tuesday, April 2 and run until Friday, May 24. See some example screenshots to guide you through the process in YorkNet.

VIRTUAL GUEST AUTHOR VISIT - KHODI DILL

As we continue to honour Black History Month and celebrate the rich past and present contributions and accomplishments of Black people in Canada, we are looking forward to our virtual guest author visit with Khodi Dill. Next Friday, February 23, he will share his book WELCOME TO THE CYPHER, a joyful celebration of rap, creativity, and self-expression.

JUNIOR SCHOOL SHOWCASE Gr. 4 & 5 WedNESDAY, March 6, Gr. 1-3 ThursDAY, March 7 - 8:45 am - 9:45 am

The excitement in the halls was palpable this week as students signed up to be part of this year’s Junior School Showcase. Beginning on Thursday, February 22, during recess times, Ms Hudson, Ms Morgan and Ms Charley will be checking in with all performers who have signed up.

We are encouraging students to perform live. A pre-recorded video may be submitted if the special talent cannot be performed in the gym. (ie. horseback riding, aerial silks or a pet trick) 

Students will submit their 30 sec-1 min talent video filmed in landscape by Thursday, February 29 on SeeSaw. An activity has been added for all classes Gr. 1-5 and is ready for uploads.
