The engineering roadmap: Alumni Advice
University Counselling and the Alumni Office invite all Senior School students to an Engineering Breakfast on November 19 from 8:00am to 9:00am. Students will hear from York alumni working in engineering and learn more about the field and degree pathways. This event will be highly interactive, with plenty of time to connect with alumni, so students should bring their questions. Be sure to tell your kids to check their email and register!

Loughborough University is delighted to host the Royal Economic Society (RES) Annual Public Lecture 2025, featuring Andy Haldane, CEO of the Royal Society of Arts and former Chief Economist at the Bank of England.
In this lecture, Andy will explore how communication shapes the economy’s “animal spirits”, narratives, and behaviours — and ask how we might do so more effectively to improve both economic performance and the well-being of citizens.

Syracuse Classroom Preview Program. Through this series of free, virtual sample classes taught by Syracuse professors, students can join live 60-minute Zoom sessions, explore real academic topics, and get a genuine sense of the college classroom environment.
As an added benefit, students who attend at least two classes and complete brief post-class surveys will earn a Syracuse University digital badge, which they can reference during their college admissions journey and share on social media to highlight their academic curiosity and initiative.
More than 20 classes are available this November in a wide range of subjects—from architecture, business and engineering to communications, education and the arts.

Schulich Leader Scholarships are Canada’s most coveted undergraduate STEM scholarships. One hundred are awarded to entrepreneurial-minded high school graduates enrolling in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math program at 20 partner universities across Canada. Half are valued at $120,000 for engineering scholarships and half are valued at $100,000* for science and math scholarships. Every high school in Canada can nominate one graduating student each year to apply for the scholarship. Eligibility:
Be a Canadian citizen
Plan to enroll in an eligible STEM program at one of our partner universities (view eligible programs at schulichleaders.com/universities)
Meet the following criteria:
Entrepreneurial-minded (exhibiting leadership, charisma and creativity)
Strong consideration will be given to students with financial need
Intend to pursue a career in one or more of the following focus areas:
Technology
Engineering
Entrepreneurship and business enterprise
Applied scientific research
We are NOT considering students who:
Focus on activism (environmental/political/social)
Intend to become a practicing physician and/or medical researcher (e.g. Doctor, Dentist, Nurse, Psychologist, Pharmacist, Optometrist, Veterinarian, etc.)
Intend to pursue a career in academia or conduct theoretical research
Interested students should speak to their University Counsellor before leaving for the Winter break.
