BEYOND YORK - January 18, 2024

Course Selection Forms have been emailed to current grade 8, 9, and 10 students and their families. In the upcoming week, students will receive more information about the available choices for their grade. We request that the form is returned with signatures from both the student and parent by Tuesday, February 20, 2024. Please carefully review the attachments in the provided emails, and if you have any questions, feel free to contact your child’s counselor.

For grade 10 students selecting their IB Diploma courses, information about options has been shared over the past couple of months. As part of their career assignment, students are required to schedule a meeting with their counselor. Parents are welcome to arrange meetings with their child’s counselor to discuss course selections and university-related matters.

Innomasters is a program organized and run by the University of Toronto’s Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Chapter, that aims to help youth develop engineering problem-solving skills that can be applied to address societal challenges. Our goal is to inspire students in the GTA to develop sustainable solutions to some of the challenges involving 2 of the UNICEF Sustainable Development Goals:

  • Clean Water and Sanitation

  • Affordable and Clean Energy

Innomasters is a semester-long mentorship initiative where bi-weekly workshops are hosted at the University of Toronto to teach students about the engineering design process and how it can be applied to transform opportunities into solutions.

Throughout these workshops, high school students will simultaneously work on their projects and learn new elements of the engineering design process to implement into their projects. Students from each school will be placed in teams of 4-6 and will have the opportunity to work with individuals from other high schools to address a problem in our world today. Each team will be led by an engineering mentor who will assist and guide them through solving their problem. Each team will be given the opportunity to present their solution in a final showcase to a panel of judges in April 2024. The Design Showcase would offer students a chance to showcase their project to their peers, friends, family, and other guests from UofT! Click HERE to learn more.
