University of King’s College in Halifax This February, King’s will be hosting a virtual essay writing workshop open to all high school students. In this webinar, students will learn how to write an academic essay. This is an excellent opportunity for keen students who are interested in King’s academic programs and want to get a sense of what they are like. The webinar is scheduled for Sunday, February 18 at 4:00pm Atlantic. And…King’s is bringing back Humanities for Young People! This summer enrichment program is geared towards high school students from the ages of 15 to 17 who are interested in the humanities. Students will have a chance to stay on-campus, engage in exciting workshops, and explore the city of Halifax! The session will run from July 6 – 14, 2024.

Johns Hopkins University - We want to extend a special invitation to your high school juniors to join us for Junior Preview Day on Monday, February 19, 2024! (This is the Monday of the February Mid-Term Break - Family Day)

Junior Preview Day offers students an opportunity to see what it’s like to live and learn at Hopkins. In this half-day program, students will have the opportunity to tour our Homewood campus, learn about financial aid, connect with current Hopkins students, and attend application workshops that guide them through every stage of their college search process.

We’d love for you to share this information with your juniors and encourage them to attend! Attached to this email is a flyer with information on Junior Preview Day that you can share digitally or print out and hang in your counseling office.

Pratt PreCollege students explore creative careers and develop their artistic skills with support from experienced faculty. Courses allow students a unique opportunity to be immersed in the creative process and get a sneak peek into the undergraduate experience at Pratt Institute, during the summer on our gorgeous Brooklyn campus.

Summer 2024: July 8 - August 2, 2024

During the program students will:
1. Study art, design, or architecture at a college level.
2. Create work suitable for use in a college admissions portfolio.
3. Join a creative community of like-minded students.
4. Explore undergraduate majors and discover the Pratt Institute experience.

A professional portfolio can be vital in gaining admission into college. This course is designed to introduce the fundamentals of portfolio development. Students will learn what to include in their portfolios-based on standards set by top colleges-and investigate the basic technical skills for developing a professional portfolio. Upon completion of this course, students will be given the opportunity to have their portfolios reviewed by a Pratt admissions counselor to help them gain a first-hand understanding of what might be expected by one of the top colleges.

Kingsway College School is hosting our 2 Young Global Leaders Program thanks to the Harvard Model Congress and Learn with Leaders. The 5-day program will bring together student Mentors enrolled at Harvard University and younger changemakers from the GTA and beyond at the KCS Senior School June 24 to 28, 2024.

Spread over 5 action-packed days, the mission of the Young Global Leaders Program is to immerse middle and high-school students in the exercise of thoughtful leadership. Under the guidance of their Mentors and in collaboration with new friends, students will:

  • Practice a systematic, comprehensive approach to solving real-world problems.

  • Exercise analytical and creative thinking.

  • Use data to quantify and validate proposed solutions.

  • Practice communication skills.

  • Develop an ‘Actionable Project’ leadership project that they could choose to pursue post-program.

  • Receive a certificate from Harvard Model Congress.

University academics and representatives will also be presenting seminars on a range of popular topics, such as studying at UK Law and Medical Schools.
