BEYOND YORK - August 28, 2025

WELCOME BACK!

The University Counselling Office is delighted to introduce you to The York School’s new Registrar, Ms. Sally Warren. Many of you already know Ms. Warren from her wonderful work as the Middle School Administrative Assistant, a role she has held for the past eight years.

In her new position, Ms. Warren will be supporting the University Counselling team in many important ways. She will be coordinating university visits to York, managing student records, booking family meetings with counsellors, and assisting with the many details that keep our office running smoothly. She will also play a key role in supporting university applications and ensuring compliance with Ministry of Education requirements. Ms Diano, whom many of you know, is not going anywhere! She has decided to work part-time, and you will see her in her new role as Student Support Assistant.

We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Warren into this new role, where her care, experience, and organizational skills will continue to benefit students and families alike.

This year, The York School will be piloting two different curriculum nights for the Middle and Senior School. One focused on the MYP program Grades 6 - 10, and one solely focused on the Diploma program Grades 11 - 12.

Our DP curriculum night will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, with Grade 12 families also participating in a university counselling session that evening. Our MYP curriculum night will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

More information on both evenings will be sent in the coming days.

Harvard, Princeton, the University of Virginia, Wellesley, and Yale would like to spend some time with you. You know their names, but find out more at their online evening programs. Don't miss your opportunity to hear admissions officers from all five schools discuss the variety of opportunities one can find at their institutions. Learn about scholarships and their generous need-based financial aid offerings.

Mr Robertson signs off each vacation period with, “Read, read, read,” and we hope everyone dug into at least one good book this summer! But reading for pleasure, interest, and curiosity isn’t just for summertime. Students who read regularly tend to have the easiest time with the Reading sections of the SAT and ACT. Reading a little every day can go a long way toward boosting your verbal skills by building your fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Exploring the resources on this list will prepare you for the types of passages you'll encounter on the SAT and ACT Reading sections. Click here to learn more.
